Submitted Opposition to the Amendment on the Act On Promotion Of Information And Communications Network Utilization And Information Protection, which criminalizes false and manipulative information

On June 21, 2024, Open Net Korea submitted the following opposition to the amendment to the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (by PM Kim Jang Gyum, Bill No. 2200352), which stipulates penalties for the dissemination of false information and the authority of the Korea Communications Standard Commission to order the deletion of false information.

The bill should be repealed as an unconstitutional and anti-democratic bill that grossly violates freedom of expression and the right to know. It violates the constitutional principle of clarity and the principle of excessive funding.
